WHERE WE ARE

The AI governance profession has a problem.

The regulations are real. The regulatory obligations are real. The consequences of getting this wrong — for organisations, for the people their AI systems affect, and for the professionals advising them — are real.

The education infrastructure is not keeping pace.

Certifications are being produced at scale by organisations with no practitioner track record. Courses are being generated by AI tools and sold to professionals who need genuine knowledge. Frameworks are being presented as complete answers to problems they only partially address.

The result is a profession being built on foundations that are not deep enough for what is being demanded of it.

I know this because I went looking for those resources. I found the courses. I bought one of them. What I found was AI-generated audio reading AI-generated text over AI-generated slides — forty hours of it, packaged and sold as a premium professional education.

I emailed the company and requested a refund.

But I kept thinking about the professionals who had completed it and not asked for their money back. Who were, at that moment, walking into client conversations or governance roles believing they were equipped.

That is the problem this platform exists to solve.

THE STORY

Twenty years in technology.
Then everything changed.

I have been in technology for over twenty years. Data engineering, cloud infrastructure, AI and machine learning. I have built the systems that regulated organisations depend on, across financial services, public sector, and beyond.

For most of that time, AI was governable. Models trained on an organisation's own data, by trained professionals, producing deterministic outputs. The risks were understood. The frameworks existed.

Then came ChatGPT.

Not as a technical development. What changed in November 2022 was something more consequential: for the first time in the history of artificial intelligence, the technology was handed directly to the entire workforce. Not to engineers. To everyone. Simultaneously. With no governance infrastructure in place, no regulatory framework yet written, and no profession equipped to manage what was about to happen.

The old models of governance were not just inadequate. They were irrelevant to this new reality.

At Aligne, where I was leading our governance, risk, and compliance practice with large enterprise clients, the questions started arriving almost immediately. How do we deploy this safely? How do we scale it without regulatory exposure? How do we know if it is behaving the way we think it is?

These were not hypothetical questions. They were urgent questions from regulated organisations with real obligations and real customers.

I saw the gap. I decided to close it.

I built my own system. It cost three years.

I am a serious self-directed learner. Nine AWS certifications in nine months, self-studied, while working full time and raising two sons. I had already built a knowledge management system over years — primary sources, structured synthesis, visual notes, deliberate review cycles.

I applied that system to AI governance.

I went to the source documents. The EU AI Act. ISO 42001. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework. The OECD AI Principles. Sector-specific regulatory guidance from the FCA, the PRA, and the CBUAE. I synthesised across them. I built the map as I went.

Simultaneously, I co-founded Altrum AI to build a real-time AI control plane for enterprises deploying generative AI at scale. I was running complex enterprise engagements with IBM while building the knowledge infrastructure that made those engagements credible.

It was not easy. It was not efficient. And it took far longer than it should have, because the structured, practitioner-grade resource I needed did not exist.

After two years of working across hundreds of enterprise conversations in the UK, UAE, and India, one thing became clear: the demand for genuine AI governance expertise is accelerating faster than the profession can produce people equipped to meet it. The market gap is not narrowing. It is widening.

I waited for someone else to build what was needed.

Nobody built it.

So I started.

The reframe that changed everything.

Early in those client conversations, I encountered the same resistance everywhere. Executives who saw governance as a constraint. Boards who heard 'AI governance' and thought 'slower AI adoption.' Risk functions who had not yet seen how governance could be an accelerant rather than a brake.

The reframe that changed every conversation was simple. And it is now the signature of everything I build.

AI governance is not the brakes on AI adoption. It is the steering wheel.

Governance done properly does not slow confident AI adoption. It makes confident AI adoption possible. It is the mechanism by which organisations earn the right to move faster with AI — because they have demonstrated, to themselves and to their regulators, that they understand what they are deploying.

That distinction matters in every boardroom conversation. And it is not something you find in a certification course. It is something you learn from doing the work.

THE PERSON BEHIND THE WORK

I grew up in an Indian Air Force family. The discipline that instilled in me is not something I perform. It is how I am wired. In bed by 9:30pm. Up at 5am, every morning. Not because I romanticise the routine — because the routine is what makes everything else possible.

I am a practicing Sikh. The principle of Dasvandh — giving 10% of what you have, of your knowledge, of your time — is why the free resources on this platform are genuinely free. It is not strategy. It is faith in practice.

I am also a road cyclist, a Toastmasters member, and a ferocious reader. Seven to eight years of long-distance cycling has taught me more about the compounding nature of sustained effort than any book on the subject. And I still go to Toastmasters — despite years of keynote experience — because mastery is a practice, not a destination.

I live in the UK with my wife of twenty-five years and our two sons. The three years it took to build genuine expertise in AI governance the hard way cost real family time. That is part of why the mission to make this easier for others is not abstract.
